Upgrading to the Cloud – Tales from the Battlefield
April 23 | 11:00am | Jasmine F
Every Cloud migration project has its share of unique challenges. With the demands of the business to experience as little downtime as possible, a migration can be eased by knowing what mechanisms and tools exist before a project begins. This project had tight timeframes, large databases, database upgrades and the Cloud. The session is a real use-case scenario demonstrating the challenges and successes of migrating numerous large, (>10TB) databases from on-premise to the Cloud. This session will discuss the tips, tricks and solutions that provided the ability to overcome the challenges faced when failure isn’t an option. This presentation will help any implementer or project to navigate the Cloud migration river and avoid the rapids.
Migration of Data to the Cloud
April 24 | 1:15pm | Jasmine E
You have been handed a project to move data to the Cloud. The business places constraints on this project including cost, time constraints and with minimal downtime. How are you going to get the data to the Cloud and at the same time upgrade the database? This presentation will cover the different processes, techniques and resolutions to migrate data from on-premise to the Cloud. The presentation will cover ways to upgrade and move databases with little or no downtime, databases that are large > 10TB and different tools used to get the data from on-premise to the Cloud. The information learned from this presentation will help navigate the difficult world of moving data to the Cloud.
A Case Study of Oracle Database Upgrade and Migration
April 25 | 2:30pm | Banyan C
The business places constraints on this project including cost, time constraints and with minimal downtime. Before deciding on a database consolidation method, you really need to have a clear picture in your mind of what your goals are and what compromises you are willing to make in pursuit of those goals. Many consolidation presentations and articles contain a one size fits all approach to consolidating databases and applications. There are several possible ways of achieving database consolidation, but all of them have specific pros and cons. The trick is to find one that has all the pros you need, with as few cons as possible. Invariably, no one consolidation method will be perfect for all your needs, so you will have to use multiple or compromise. This presentation will present a case study of moving and consolidating 130 databases. The information learned from this presentation will help navigate the difficult world of consolidating your databases and data center.
