Completely Redundant PowerOur Facilities Can Keep Running Indefinitely
In terms of power, a complete N+1 (redundant) infrastructure is in place in each of the Secure-24 data centers. There are no single points of failure. Each of our data centers has two physical paths and points of entry for power conduits. Every single server and network component running in the customer environment is powered by two separate 20 Amp circuits. Each of these circuits runs a completely independent path and each circuit is managed by a power distribution unit, or PDU that protects against surges or drops in electrical flow.
Both redundant power networks have separate breaker boards and are constantly running off of a direct current feed from one of two fully redundant UPS systems and battery arrays. Each UPS system and battery array is capable of running the components of the entire facility for approximately 30 minutes under full load in the event of a power outage. Having all of the systems run off of this DC solution ensures that there will never be an interruption in power.
In the event that there is a failure in the power grid, each location has a large capacity, diesel generator on site that starts automatically within 60 seconds of the power outage.
The large fuel capacity of our generators allows Secure-24 to continue operations for approximately 2.5 - 3 days under full load without any additional fuel supplies. However, Secure-24 has contracted for on-site fuel delivery in the case of an extended outage. With off site supply, we can keep our facilities running indefinitely.
The blackout in the summer of 2003 was an impressive example of the effectiveness of our design. There was no interruption of power to either of our Michigan facilities during this time. Customers with remote offices and customers outside of the effected areas were able to continue to access their critical applications as a result.
